Icebergs, penguin colonies and silence, two days by ship from Ushuaia.
Expedition ships cross the Drake Passage from Ushuaia between November and March. Zodiacs land on the beaches of the South Shetland Islands and the peninsula, among chinstrap and gentoo penguins.
Deception Island is the caldera of an active volcano; whales feed in the channels and icebergs drift past the ship day and night.
